Sandy’s Book Cover and Site Design
Sandy approached me hoping to have both a book cover and an author website designed for her motivational Christian book titled Build You For Life. From the start, Sandy and I discussed her vision for the project, wanting it to reflect her adventurous and self-motivated personality while keeping a clean, approachable aesthetic. The first step was to develop a color palette that could carry across both the book and the site, inspired by the keyword “mountain.” I created a muted, grounded palette of charcoal, blue grey, sage green, off white, and taupe, colors that reflect the strength and calm of the Rocky Mountains.
The book cover was the foundation of the visual identity, tying the project together from the start. I selected a striking Rocky Mountain image as the central visual, rich with symbolism and personal meaning for Sandy. For the title, I used an elegant serif font in all caps, applying blend modes to let the landscape shine through the lettering. The neatly stacked arrangement of words echoes the theme of “building,” while the tagline stands out in italic serif for contrast and emphasis. Sandy’s name, set in a clean sans serif, balances the overall design and adds modern clarity. On the back cover, I overlaid a soft charcoal box on the mountain imagery, allowing the scene to subtly show through while keeping the book description, author bio, and endorsements highly readable in a clean serif font.
The website carried this aesthetic forward, ensuring it felt true to Sandy’s personality while extending her brand into the digital space. She chose a riverside portrait of herself writing as the focal image, and we added a playful animation where her name bounces onto the screen beneath her author introduction. The site also includes a promotional section for her book, a message box to capture email subscribers, and a live Instagram feed integration to keep the site fresh and connected to her audience.
Together, the book cover and website formed a unified visual identity that not only communicates the message of Build You For Life but also embodies Sandy’s adventurous, motivated spirit. From the muted mountain-inspired palette to the balance of elegance and clarity in typography, every element was designed to reinforce both her personal story and the book’s empowering message. The end result is a professional yet personal brand system that provides Sandy with a strong foundation to share her work and connect with her readers.
